TRUDE’S HOUSE
The Gertrude (Trude) Zalar
Foundation was founded by Dr. Richard Zalar as a tribute to his wife Trude and
as a way to assist other families who struggle as he did to find quality
Alzheimer’s care. As a physician and author, he has dedicated his resources and
energy to the Foundation. When you visit Trude’s House at The Stratford at
WestClay, the artist rendering of Trude represents the love and joy that Dr.
Zalar and Trude shared, a love he has not allowed the ravishes of Alzheimer’s
to diminish or distinguish. Through his work with
the Foundation, Dr. Zalar has kept alive her memory through the funding of art
and music programs, caregivers’ training and family support programs.
Although Alzheimer’s Disease
and other forms of dementia can impact a person’s ability to engage in their
daily routine, staff at Trude’s House encourages resident independence with all
activities of daily living, through an activity-based model of care which
encourages a sense of fun and joy for residents and families. Caregivers solve
problems and preserve resident dignity by giving residents a sense of security,
stability and togetherness.
At Trude’s House at The
Stratford at WestClay, residents enjoy The Active Lifestyle They Deserve in The
Neighborhood They Love® through an activity-based program of art, music,
horticulture and pet therapy. A balance of physical, social, intellectual,
spiritual, creative, work related and spontaneous activity is promoted. The goal
is to provide each resident daily opportunities to engage in activity that has
meaning for him or her.
At Trude’s House, we believe in
the CELEBRATION of LIFE.
